Local sales taxes, one portal
Alaska has no state sales tax, but many cities and boroughs levy their own. After Wayfair, municipalities formed the Alaska Remote Seller Sales Tax Commission and adopted a uniform code so remote sellers can register and file once. The threshold is $100,000 of statewide annual gross sales, counting every Alaska transaction whether in a taxing community or exempt.
The portal covers only municipalities that have adopted the code; sales into other taxing jurisdictions are filed with them directly. Taxability, including of SaaS and digital products, follows each municipality’s own rules and exemptions.
In practice
Example: a SaaS company with $180,000 of Alaska revenue, mostly from customers in municipalities that tax services and some in places with no sales tax, is over the threshold on gross sales. It registers with ARSSTC, maps each customer’s address to a member jurisdiction, and collects where that jurisdiction taxes the subscription.
In the books, local sales tax collected is a liability, and the address-to-jurisdiction mapping matters more than in most states because rates and rules change at municipal lines.

This page covers what Alaska adds. The federal rules underneath it apply here too.
Common questions
Do we collect sales tax from Alaska customers?
Alaska has no state sales tax, but many municipalities do. A remote seller with more than $100,000 of statewide gross sales registers with the Alaska Remote Seller Sales Tax Commission and collects the local tax for member municipalities that have adopted the uniform code.
Is SaaS taxable in Alaska?
It depends on the municipality: each one decides what its sales tax covers under the ARSSTC code and its exemptions. Check the member jurisdictions’ rates and exemption summaries for where your Alaska customers are.
