Mixpanel is hired to count what people do in a product and show it as funnels, retention and trends. The cost follows event volume, so the first lever is usually how much is tracked, not which vendor holds it. Below: the published plans, the realistic replacements, and the work of moving tracking without losing the questions the team relies on.
Product analytics accumulates. Years of named events, saved reports and the habit of checking a dashboard on Monday are what keep the plan alive, not any one feature.
Because the bill follows event volume, it also grows quietly as the product adds tracking. A review of what is sent often finds events nobody has queried in a year.
Only alternatives we have checked. An open-source project is listed with the license its repository reports, on the date shown; one whose license could not be read as a single standard id is not offered as open source. Read the license guide before running any of them.

Each feature below is what the product's own page or README says, linked to where we read it on the date shown. Pros and cons are limited to what those pages state and to what the path itself changes. We do not rank products on quality.

List prices as printed on the vendors' pages on the checked date. Mixpanel's Growth plan is billed by event volume; a few of its published steps are shown, not the whole table. Taxes, add-ons and what a plan includes can differ at checkout.
Product analytics counts events and groups them by user. The expensive part is rarely the counting; it is the volume you send and the number of questions you ask. A smaller, well-named set of events is cheaper in any product.
Web-analytics tools and product-analytics tools overlap but are not the same shelf. Check that the replacement can answer your funnel and retention questions before moving anything.
Samples are made up and are not Mixpanel's prices. Type in the figures from your own invoice or order form.
The honest yearly cost of running open-source software yourself, set against the bill it replaces, with the seat count where it stops paying.
Paid seats against seats in use: what the idle ones cost a year, and what you save by right-sizing at renewal.
Arithmetic only, not tax, accounting or legal advice. Check the figures against your own order form.
In outline:
List the events being sent, the reports and dashboards people open, and who opens them. Retire what nobody reads before choosing a destination.
Write down the handful of questions the tool must answer. Build each of them in the candidate tool from a sample of real events.
Send events to both tools for a month. Compare the counts for the same period and explain any gap before trusting the new one.
Remove the old tracking code, export what you need to keep, and end the plan inside the contract's notice window.
Run the vendor report for QuickBooks Online or Xero, then open the free audit.

Send us the export and see which lines are worth a second look. A connected version is planned. Mixpanel is one of the lines worth a look.

“In use” is your call: last sign-in in the past 30 or 90 days from the vendor's admin report. A seat for someone on leave is not idle.
