Postman is hired to do one job: send requests to APIs, check the answers and share those requests with a team. Plenty of that work is a text file and a Git repository, which makes it one of the more portable developer subscriptions. Below: the plans as published, the open-source clients people move to, and what to settle before ending a plan.
It starts as one engineer's way to try an endpoint and becomes the place a team's requests, variables and documentation live. Nobody decides to depend on it; the collections just accumulate.
The requests themselves are portable. What takes work is the shared workspace, the scheduled runs and any documentation others read, which is why we inventory those before recommending anything.
Only alternatives we have checked. An open-source project is listed with the license its repository reports, on the date shown; one whose license could not be read as a single standard id is not offered as open source. Read the license guide before running any of them.

An API client is a developer tool, and most of what it holds is plain: requests, variables and test scripts. The question is how much of the team's work happens in the vendor's cloud workspace rather than in files you control.
Samples are made up and are not Postman's prices. Type in the figures from your own invoice or order form.
Paid seats against seats in use: what the idle ones cost a year, and what you save by right-sizing at renewal.
What paying a year up front really costs: the premium for monthly, the break-even month and the interest rate the discount works out to.
Arithmetic only, not tax, accounting or legal advice. Check the figures against your own order form.
Moving an API client is mostly moving collections and environments. In outline:
List the collections and environments people still open, who owns them, and which ones are used by scheduled runs or CI.
Export a few collections and import them into the new client. Send the requests that matter and compare the responses and test results with what the old tool gave.
Decide where collections live. A client that keeps collections as files in a folder can use the same Git repository as the code, which also puts review and history in the place developers already work.
Move secrets out of exported environments into your secrets manager or local, ignored files, and rotate any token that sat in a shared workspace.
Re-create scheduled runs in your CI system, tell the team the date, keep read access to the old workspace for a month, then end the plan inside the contract's notice window.
Run the vendor report for QuickBooks Online or Xero, then open the free audit.

Send us the export and see which lines are worth a second look. A connected version is planned. Postman is one of the lines worth a look.

“In use” is your call: last sign-in in the past 30 or 90 days from the vendor's admin report. A seat for someone on leave is not idle.

Paying 905.00 more on day one saves the other eleven monthly bills. The discount is worth that much a year on the cash you hand over early. If your cash earns or costs you less than this, annual wins, as long as you will use the tool all year.
| Months used | Monthly plan | Annual plan | Cheaper |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 95.00 | 1,000.00 | Monthly |
| 3 | 285.00 | 1,000.00 | Monthly |
| 6 | 570.00 | 1,000.00 | Monthly |
| 9 | 855.00 | 1,000.00 | Monthly |
| 12 | 1,140.00 | 1,000.00 | Annual |
Assumes the monthly plan bills at the start of each month and the annual plan does not refund. Check your order form for both.
